Irish partners Coillte and Cobblestone Learning shortlisted for the Learning Technologies Awards 2021 in London

(Dublin, Ireland. 28 September 2021) For immediate release

Coillte and Cobblestone Learning are delighted to be nominated for the Learning Technologies Award 2021 within the Best Learning Technologies Project – public & non-profit sector for their digital learning programme about Health and Safety for Forestry Workers. The awards will take place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on17 November 2021.

This digital training project highlights Coillte’s commitment to ensure safe forestry practices in Ireland. Before this online programme, Coillte delivered on-site training by an instructor who needed to travel to remote sites across the country, which sometimes caused delays in the training delivery and the commencement of works.

Cobblestone Learning designed and developed an interactive experience that provided real-life context, and ultimately reduced Health and Safety incidents. They spent more than nine months filming on remote forestry sites around Ireland to gather drone footage, pictures, videos, and more information about the processes and risks of harvesting timber.

The result was a highly interactive digital learning programme, with video-based scenarios where workers take decisions and learn the risks of their choices in a safe way. Time-lapse videos, using geo-tagging and drones was used to visualise the different stages of a harvesting operation over time, along with customized infographics and interactive content.

“It means a lot to us to receive recognition not only from our staff and stakeholders but also from the wider training and development industry”

-Kay Maguire, Coillte’s Training Standards Specialist.
